The Topaz Pilgrimage will be held in Delta, Utah on June 30, 2007. Anyone interested in the history of the World War II Japanese American Topaz Internment Camp is invited to spend the day touring the site and attending programs beginning at 10:00 a.m. Meet in the Delta City Park at 9:00 a.m. for specific directions to the camp which is 16 miles northwest of Delta.
In the past, the Pilgrimages have attracted former internees, their families and people from around the state. Walking through a restored recreation hall or seeing the living conditions imposed on the internees brings the history of the time into focus.
This year the Smithsonian Institution's Museum on Main Street exhibit called "Between Fences" will be housed at the Delta City Library from May 19 to July 7, 2007
Klancy Clark De Nevers, author of "The Colonel and the Pacifist," will speak and sign copies of her book.
The rest of the day will be a time to talk with former internees and hear firsthand what sorts of experiences they had while living in a temporary city of over 8000 people, located on the edge of the Great Basin.
